Planning for 2012
A radio and TV playwright has compiled a series of contemporary pieces for the 2012 production of the Lichfield Mystery plays. Carolyn Scott Jeffs, an actor, writer and director, has written contemporary links to be performed between the 27 medieval plays. Carolyn and Production Director Mark Fitzgerald are searching for actors to bring the scripts to life for the Mysteries in May next year.
The search is on for two more groups to perform in the Lichfield Mysteries.
Cast and directors are needed for two plays - The Shepherds and The Buffeting - for the production on May 6&7.
The Shepherds has a cast of six people and is the story of how an angel visits the shepherds, telling them of the birth of Jesus and their journey to see him, taking gifts.
The Buffeting also has a cast of six and is centred on the soldiers escorting Jesus to appear before Pilate for sentencing. The soldiers taunt and goad him and accuse him of using witchcraft to raise people from the dead. They punch and hit him.
Groups will have the backing of professional advisors in voice coaching, music and costumes.
Any groups or individuals who would like to take part in these two plays are asked to email Administrator and Production Manager Jill Taylor: 01543 264602 or email: jilltaylor@lichfieldmysteries.co.uk as soon as possible.
* Lichfield Mysteries is a two-day event over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. Plays are performed on Market Square and in the Cathedral.
