Lichfield Mysteries Community Arts are creating ‘Ground Verse’, a Pop-Up Poetry Trail to celebrate Lichfield’s Heritage Weekend and everyone is invited to take part.
Mal Dewhirst, Staffordshire’s first Poet Laureate, will be our Poet in Residence for the day.
Mal and Lichfield Mysteries, will be based at Cafe Nero in Bore Street during Saturday September 23rd, 10am and 4pm, so people can pop in, have a coffee and contribute a line of poetry which will reflect the social heritage of Lichfield – what people remember from their youth, the places they used to hang out, fond memories, where they go now and what they find interesting about the city. Throughout the day, Mal will also be out and about around the city collecting people’s ideas for the poem. Mal will then weave the lines together with his poetic magic to create a community poem.
Local poetry groups have also been asked to produce a poem on the day, based on Lichfield’s Heritage.
The poems will be displayed around the city centre creating a trail of poetry, which you will be able to follow on foot or on social media.
If you would like to leave us a line of poetry beforehand, please send it to our website http://www.lichfieldmysteries.co.uk/contact-us/, or via Lichfield Mysteries’ Facebook page.
