Birmingham ArtsFest
 |
| The cast of the Reduced Mysteries presented at Birmingham ArtsFest (l-r) Lewis Brown, Ellis Mcnorthey Gibbs, Jude Claybourne and Tara Dowd with director Mark Fitzgerald. |
Newly-appointed professional Production Director for Lichfield Mysteries and four talented young actors from the largest community theatre in Europe brought the Reduced Mysteries to Birmingham ArtsFest.
Mark Fitzgerald directed the play specially for ArtsFest and the Old Joint Stock Theatre was packed to capacity for the production. And the audience loved this tongue-in-cheek look at Bible stories from Creation to The Nativity – all told on 30 miinutes!
Lichfield’s Lizzie Wofford penned The Reduced Mysteries as a taster for the full Lichfield Mysteries taking place in May 2012.
The cast, Lewis Brown, Ellis Mcnorthey Gibbs, Jude Claybourne and Tara Dowd, are members of Questors, Ealing’s Theatre, which has around 2,000 members plus a 500-strong youth theatre. Mark Fitzgerald works with the organisation and is a tutor for its Training Academy.
The Reduced Mysteries will be performed around the Lichfield area in the run-up to the main performance next year – watch the Mysteries’ website for details.
Mysteries at the Lichfield Festival Fringe
Actors on a very wet and windy Saturday morning braved the elements to give an outdoor performance of The Reduced Mysteries. The performances in Market Square and Three Spires Shopping Centre were part of the Lichfield Festival's Fringe Saturday events.
Despite the elements shoppers gathered to watch the much-shortened version of the Lichfield Mysteries - some of the 27 plays reduced to around 20 hilarious minutes. These were extracts from the Reduced Mysteries, a light-hearted look at the Old Testament, written by Lizzie Wofford. We saw four actors - Sam Crawford, Peter Harrington, Dickie Bannister and Sue Carter - perform highlights from Creation, Adam and Eve and The Nativity. The play was directed by Brian Todd.
And the weather didn't dampen the performances or the generous applause at the end of each performance.
Mysteries at the Fuse Festival
The Lichfield Mysteries’ stand attracted lots of interest at the Fuse Festival on Sunday, July 10. Folks visiting enjoyed trying on some of the costumes while browsing around the stalls and events on offer on Beacon Park.
Here are a few Mysteries’ pictures taken at the event. Lichfield Mysteries has hundreds of costumes which can be borrowed in return for a donation. Contact: jilltaylor@lichfieldmysteries.co.uk.
