Biography - Mark Fitzgerald
The Artistic Director of the largest community theatre company in Europe has been appointed Production Director for the Lichfield Mysteries 2012.
Mark Fitzgerald is already working with the professional team and with individual play directors in Lichfield, planning a spectacular Mysteries for May next year. He is currently Artistic Director of The Questors Theatre Company, based in Ealing, West London, a position he’s held since 2008.
Mark has had a successful and varied career since he trained as an actor in Student Group 44 at the Questors and at Drama Studio London. Among his fifty-plus credits as a director are The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged), The Libertine, Accrington Pals, A Christmas Carol, Far from the Madding Crowd, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Little Shop of Horrors, An ideal Husband and The Visit.
He has over thirty TV credits to his name, including the award-winning BAFTA-nominated Seven Sins of England and The Enemy Within, both for Channel 4.
He is a professional actor and was founding artistic director of the Drayton Court Theatre.
Mark has worked as an entertainments manager in Spain, producing 28 shows and has been involved in the production of many TV and radio commercials for B & Q.
Mark is looking forward to working with the talented actors and directors in Lichfield. He said: As the Artistic Director of Questors I am responsible for the programming of over twenty full productions a year. I also look after 250 actors, 40 directors and six designers, so I am fairly experienced in dealing with large scale projects.
At present Mark, with Questors, is involved as a volunteer with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Open Stages Project. The company is the Partner venue for the whole of the London region, one of only ten partner venues in the UK.
Chair of Lichfield Mysteries Council of Management, Ros Hallifax, said: We are delighted that Mark has accepted the position of Production Director. His extensive experience with groups of actors and crews of all ages, both professional and amateur, will be invaluable for his work with those taking part in Lichfield Mysteries 2012. He will head up our professional team which includes costume director and designer John Brooking, music director Anthony Evans, technical manager Matt Garfield and production manager Jill Taylor.
Lichfield Mysteries, involving around 800 people, will be performed on May 6 & 7, 2012 on Market Square, Lichfield and in the Cathedral.
